FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should my dancer wear to class?

Dancers at Allegro are to wear uniform specifiied in our dance uniform list. Proper dance uniform helps the teachers to see the students' bodies and lines for appropriate alignment and placement. It also help young dancers to understand that he/she is going to a structured class, instead of an unstructured playtime; and it ensures that clothing does not become a distraction to the class. Our uniform requirements are outlined in the Dress Code page on the website. All items are available for purchase at the studio (except for tap and jazz shoes). If you are coming for a trial class, and do not have any dance attire; leggings or shorts and a t-shirt is recommended for boys and girls.

When can my dancer start dance?

It's never too young to foster a love of dance! Our school offers classes for students as young as 3 years of age. Ocassionally, we accept enrollment from students 2 years of age, as long as they are able to dance on their own, without their parents by their side.

Does my dancer have to participate in recitals?

We have two performances throught out the year, December and June. The performance consists fo short dances choreographed from steps that the students have been working on throughout the term(s). While participation in our recitals is not mandatory, we find that the chance to perfrom is a rewarding and confidence building experience. If your choose not to participate in the performances, please continue to attend class, students will continue to learn new material and routines that will help them understand sequencing and timing.

Can I watch the dance class?

In our experience, children relax, pay attention and enjoy the lessons better without a parent watching as it can be distracting, so we ask that after the trial class or the first session, parents do not watch the class. We do however hold presentation classes at the end of the term for parents to watch and dancers can perform in our winter showcase and year-end rectial.
